Joanna Beauzier (22 years old), was a Brooklyn raised former foster child that was the first case of Founder Melody J.Centeno during her time as a Case Planner in child welfare. After finding herself in an altercation with a young lady on September 13, 2016, Joanna was stabbed multiple times in front of her nine month old child. Recently aging out of the foster care system into the Brownsville section Brooklyn, NY, the story quickly made headlines.

Through the advocates of the Foster Care Unplugged community, they have responded to Joanna's tragic death in attempt to stamp their contributions to her life. The below public service announcement is there way of addressing prevention of tragedy through conflict resolution.

This PSA is currently being shown at various"Pop Up" Women's empowerment events targeting girls in foster care, group home and juvenile non/secure program settings. The event begins with advocates donating their time pampering 20 youth through hair, nails, and make up. Empower them, through music and laughter, it is there way in breaking into " healthy communication", on how the resolve conflict. Working with youth who knew her, or who have experienced similar situations with conflict, a panel discussion is then held. Justice For Latte Campaign

Justice for Latte

In Memory of our Mentee Thiasia Ashley Williams (Latte). Who was murdered by a stray bullet on Martin Luther King drive in the community of Hempstead, NY. Shortly after her passing, a protest was organized by Foster Care Unplugged, that took place in the area where the murder took place. The community canvased the area to shed awareness and in hopes that they would encourage the community to extend any information related to the incident to the local authorities. This case remains unsolved. Latte was mentored by Founder Melody Centeno, who was supporting her in starting her own non-profit as a doula just before she passed away. She heavily invested in being an amazing Mother to her young son Noel and donating clothing to the youth of Foster Care Unplugged. Any information related to her murder, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1800. 222-TIPS.
